Off to live the dreamICA/RNZYS Extended Coastal & Offshore Cruising Division (OCD)

The Island Cruising Association is pleased to announce closer ties with the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron based in Westahaven, Auckland.

The RNZYS and the Island Cruising Association have formed close ties with the RNZYS forming an OCD (Offshore Cruising Division) and the ICA now running cruising events for and at the RNZYS. “Cruising is an area the RNZYS has not focused on in the past” said RNZYS Rear Commodore Steve Mair. “With the ICA’s extensive experience in cruising and their knowledge base, there was no point in reinventing the wheel.”

The Island Cruising Association will get the ball rolling in 2014 with a series of “Focus on Cruising” information evenings at the RNZYS. These evenings, similar to ICA club nights held previously, will focus on subjects such as set up and preparation and products relating to cruising both extended coastal and offshore. The schedule for this will be bi-monthly on the second Friday of the month starting Feb 14th.

ICA and RNZYS are also looking to develop rallies for those wishing to explore other cruising grounds in New Zealand, such as the Marlborough Sounds, Fiord land and Stewart Island as well as the existing offshore events.
